If you are a shop owner who works on automotive, or small engines & equipment, or if your just somebody who does maintenance out of their own garage, your hands will get very dirty and greasy. After your hands get like that, the last thing you want to do is, touch important documents, go inside your house tracking the grease around, or shaking somebody's clean hand. The best thing to have is a utility sink AKA laundry tub, which you can use to wash your hands. They are also good for washing/cleaning engine parts.
JUST THE FACTS: This is a Swanstone 22 gallon polypropylene utility sink. It measures 22" wide by 25" deep, and uses 4 steel angular legs. This model is PT-1/4000 and does not include a faucet, you can buy one separately. It has a molded drain and stopper and the sink is white in color. The sink does come with the needed hardware to mount the angular legs to a surface, and also includes a washer and nut for the drain connection. However, it does not include a PVC sink extender, nor does it include a P-trap.
ASSEMBLY: Assembly was pretty straight forward, as the tub is all in one piece. Tip, put the tub upside down, and then slide the angular legs into the bottom groves, its easier that way. As my workshop has a cement floor, I am not able to anchor down the legs, which really doesn't matter.
SUPPLY: As I was not installing this in a house, rather just a shop, I didn't necessarily need to use a faucet and 200F PVC supply line, as this would have cost me at least $60.00 more. Instead, I am just using standard 5/8 garden hose with a standard adjustable nozzle. To deter leaks, I just used some Teflon plumbers tape around the connection. I then installed a equipment hanging hook just above the sink, which I coiled about 3-strands of hose around, which is all you really need.
DRAIN: Installing the drain was pretty simple. All you are going to need at your hardware store is, PVC cement, one 12" 1/2" PVC kitchen extension, one 1/2" P-trap set with washers and nuts, one 1/2" PVC to 3 ½" ABS adaptor, and whatever amount of ABS pipe you need. If installing in a house, it will already have the ABS piping, so you can make a direct connection. In my case, I do not use harmful chemicals to clean my hands or parts. I use a bio degradable, non-toxic cleaner called, Simple Green. Because of this, there is no reason for the drain water to be treated for chemicals. And since its not a toilet, it also does not need to be treated for body waste.
As such, it made my drain situation super simple. I took my 12" kitchen PVC extension and cut it in half. I then attached it to the sink via its own washer and nut. The P-trap is a little tricky to install if you have never done it before, but I managed to install it onto the kitchen extension. I then attached the outgoing PVC line to the trap, which is included in the P-trap package. I then took my PVC cement and applied some inside the adaptor and attached it to the PVC line and secured with the included nut. I then cut a 2.5' section of ABS pipe, applied PVC cement to the other half of the adaptor, and slid the pipe into it nice and tight, work quickly as this stuff dries very fast! I then used a 90-degree elbow fitting onto the other end of the ABS pipe, and then using more PVC cement, secured a 1' section going down into the gutter drain tube, into the ground.
EXPERIENCE: I admit that the polypropylene tub is not heavy duty, however it also won't rust, or lose its color and texture. The drain slip inside the tub could be improved, as it will leave a tiny puddle of water in there, which if left for too long, could cause mildew. However, I have had no leaks to speak of with the drain connections at all. I think the rubber plug for the drain can be improved though, its not that strong, I managed to pull the ring completely off the rubber plug trying to pull it out! However, I really like the size of the sink, its bigger then I expected it was going to be, and it really allows me to wash my hand and all sorts of parts easily.
If you are installing this in a house, then you will be installing a faucet. I didn't want to leave out that there is a standard two hole pattern on the utility sink for a standard hot/cold water faucet. As long as you use PVC cement, and have tight connections, you shouldn't have any leaks with that either. The tub also has indentations on each side for things like bars of soap or liquid soap and brushes. I find them to be very useful!
CONCLUSION: Considering I only spent $47.00 with free shipping for the utility sink, and only $22.00 in materials, including things which I already had like the hose and nozzle for example, I think I did really well with my sink purchase and installation! Not only did I get what I wanted out of this project, I also spent less then I was willing too as well. Though there is room for improvement with this utility sink, I really like it! Are you somebody who is picky and only want stainless steel utility sinks? Well, you better have $400.00 on hand, cause that's what it will cost you, I only spent $47.00

With the exception of a small indentation on the top due to shipping (barely noticable), I think this is a fine cabinet.It is a well-built cabinet with a beautiful finish.I repacked all of my DVD's into slim-profile jewel cases.I can get up to 900 slim-profile jewel cases in this cabinet.A nice looking space-saver.
