In spite of the two less than glowing reviews, I decided to go with the American Lighting xenon pucks.I needed a total of 20 pucks (five 4-packs).Do to limited quantity available here, I had to purchase several packs from another vendor.Thus, I have multiple sources to derive data.So far (2-weeks), I am pleased with the results.Granted, the bulbs may start failing, but every light worked the first time, the fixtures are no less quality than to be expected, and they were relatively easy to install.Actually, the only way it could have been easier is if I would have installed them before the cabinets went up!I spaced them at 9" on-center, and at about 18" above the countertop I have very even light distribution and to a desirable level of brightness. Although I did not take any measurements, the boss likes it (Think wife!).

Buy this one by American Lighting because of the 20 watt Xenon light bulbs.I bought one set 6 years ago for a bathroom and have not burned a single light bulb yet -- even though they get used daily.Thinking that all lights that have a similar look, would be equally as effective, I made a mistake and bought several of the competitors -- and installed them in the kitchen.What a disaster;bulbs burning out aafter only a day or two...and at %5.00 a piece to replace!So, when I realized that they were NOT Xeon bulbs, I bought these ALPX60BK 12 volt, 20 Watt Xenon to replace them all.That was probably 5 months ago...and I haven't changed a bulb yet.Easy to install, look great and give lots of light, too.

American Lighting 044-12-BS Under Cabinet Puck Lighting Kit, 20-Watt Xenon Lamp, Brushed Steel Review

Although this product is described as an "under cabinet" fixture, it has a dual design that allows it to be used as recessed, in-cabinet lighting as well. The mounting shell can be removed, leaving a lamp housing with a flush-mount trim ring. It is then a simple matter to cut a hole and push the mount up and in.

This fixture produces a pleasing light with great color fidelity. In our application, it is mounted in a kitchen corner cabinet with glass front and glass shelves, holding wine glasses and other transparent pieces. The pair of fixtures in the cabinet provides even light. The lens has just enough of a matte finish to avoid a glare in the viewer's eyes.

In our application this fixture is connected to a dimmer, and this also works flawlessly. Note well that you need to purchase a transformer separately--this "steps down" your local line voltage to the 12 volt current needed by the fixture. A small, "hard-wire" transformer mounted in the attic above the cabinet did the trick for us. (Electrical codes may require that the transformer and any wire splices be accessible. Since the area above our cabinet is not accessible, we needed to install in this manner.) You should ensure that the transformer has enough capacity--for our pair of fixtures, it needed to supply 50 watts including a safety margin--and that it is compatible with dimmers if you want your light dimmable.
